Your Itinerary

  • Meet your experienced, friendly and qualified Soweto tourist guide
  • We make a brief stop at Soccer City stadium for photos before entering Soweto
  • Enter Soweto via Diepkloof Extension which is the upmarket and the jewel of Soweto
  • Drive past Baragwanath Hospital, the biggest hospital in the Southern hemisphere and you can also see Baragwanath Taxi Rank.
  • We visit Kliptown informal settlement/shanty town. In Kliptown, we are going to do a walkabout with a local site guide. You will be shown around the conditions of this impoverished community. A stop at this site will be an eye opener, a real experience and a true reflection of the unfortunate circumstances of informal dwelling.
    • For corporate South Africa we can skip/swop informal settlement visit for beer tasting at Soweto Gold Brewery
  • We then drive to Orlando West and enter the world renowned Vilakazi Street where two former Nobel Peace prize winners lived, namely Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
  • Stop at Mandela Family House Museum. The museum is revamped and filled with interesting artifacts (entrance fee included).
  • An experienced site guide will take you on a full guided tour of the house.
  • From the museum we proceed to the site where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed and it is also on the corner of Vilakazi Street.
  • The trip continues to Hector Pieterson Museum. This is the site where the whole story about the 1976 students uprising is told.
  • The museum is fascinating and the state of the art multimedia centre depicting scenes leading to the students uprising which changed the political landscape of the South African history.
  • We then make a stop for lunch at Sakhumzi Restaurant or Restaurant Vilakazi.
  • We make our last stop at the shebeen (The Shack) which is the local shebeen where you will enjoy the local hospitality and some drinks and enjoy sorghum beer out of a calabash.
  • The group will then return back having experienced the township life in its many forms.
